Quince’s Guardians
A well-bred Dobermann should live closely with its family and remain capable of the work it was created for.
A small kennel with a clear purpose
Quince’s Guardians is a European Dobermann kennel based in Serbia, founded from a deep respect for the breed’s original purpose.
We believe a true Dobermann should be deeply devoted to its family, composed in everyday life and capable when the situation demands it.
We keep a limited number of dogs and plan our litters carefully, allowing us to know every puppy individually and remain closely involved in its development.
Preserving the complete Dobermann
The Dobermann was developed in late nineteenth-century Germany by Friedrich Louis Dobermann, who needed a dependable dog to protect him while carrying out work that regularly placed him in unsafe situations.
Rather than creating a dog to guard livestock or property, he sought a personal protector: a dog intelligent enough to assess a situation, courageous enough to act, loyal enough to remain close to its owner and stable enough to live and work beside him. The Dobermann is widely regarded as the only breed created specifically for the protection of man.
That combination of devotion, intelligence, vigilance and courage remains central to our understanding of the breed.
Today, the Dobermann faces serious challenges. Fearfulness, unstable temperament and diminishing working ability can leave dogs unable to fulfil their original purpose, while cardiac disease and limited longevity remain among the breed’s most important health concerns.
Our breeding programme is built in response to those challenges.
We study pedigrees across generations, following health, longevity, character, working ability and the qualities consistently produced by individual bloodlines. Each combination is planned with the intention of producing a healthy, long-lived and beautiful Dobermann with a strong, dependable character.
We are highly selective about the bloodlines and individual dogs included in our programme. A pedigree, title or attractive appearance alone is never enough. Dogs that do not develop in accordance with our vision — physically, mentally or functionally — are not included in future breeding.
Our purpose is not simply to reproduce the Dobermann as it exists today, but to preserve and strengthen the qualities that made the breed exceptional in the first place.
A legacy measured over generations
Our vision is to build a breeding programme recognised for consistency, integrity and dogs that remain true to the Dobermann.
Success is not measured by the number of puppies produced. It is reflected in their health, character and quality of life; in the relationships they build with their families; and in their ability to perform in the show ring, on the training field and in the real world.
Every combination is part of a long-term plan. We study pedigrees, health, longevity, temperament and the qualities passed through previous generations before making a breeding decision.
What guides every decision
- 01
Health
Our breeding dogs undergo health screening relevant to the Dobermann, including cardiac examinations, genetic testing for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) copies and von Willebrand disease, and official hip evaluation.
Cardiac health is monitored throughout a dog’s breeding life through regular echocardiogram and Doppler examinations, with Holter monitoring used where appropriate.
- 02
Character
We value confident, clear-headed Dobermanns with stable temperament, good natural drives and a strong relationship with their handler.
Litters intended primarily for family life place greater emphasis on sociability, adaptability and a calmer temperament. Combinations intended for sport, work or protection are planned with stronger drives, greater intensity and proven working backgrounds.
Every breeding dog is trained and evaluated for confidence, recovery, trainability, environmental stability and behaviour in everyday life before entering our programme.
- 03
Function and type
We select dogs with correct breed type, functional construction and the physical and mental qualities required for an active life.
Working, conformation and breed-suitability titles provide valuable information, but no title replaces our own evaluation of the individual dog and the qualities it may contribute to the next generation.
- 04
Responsible placement
Our puppies are not allocated by appearance alone.
We consider each puppy’s temperament, energy, confidence and natural drives alongside the future owner’s experience, lifestyle and expectations. The objective is not simply to sell a puppy, but to create the right long-term match.
- 05
Lifelong responsibility
Our involvement does not end when a dog leaves us.
We remain available to our owners throughout the dog’s life, offering guidance through development, training and the practical challenges that may arise along the way.

Trained DobermannsSelected for the role. Prepared for real life.
For clients seeking more than a young puppy, we offer selected adolescent and adult Dobermanns with foundations appropriate to their intended home.
Depending on the individual dog and the client’s requirements, preparation may include household manners, social confidence, obedience and personal-protection training.
Every dog is selected first for health, nerve and suitability. Training is then developed around the role the dog will fulfil and the family it will live with.

Begin with your story
Every placement begins with a conversation.
Tell us about your home, experience, daily life and what you expect from a Dobermann. This allows us to understand whether our programme is right for you and, more importantly, which type of dog would be the right fit.
When the match is right, we guide you through selection, preparation, documentation and transport.
